Tyler Schamehorn(he/him), M.C.


Tyler Schamehorn (he/him) is a Registered Provisional Psychologist in the Province of Alberta. He became registered in 2023 and has several years of experience within the field of human services, having worked as a Child and Youth Care Counsellor, and within a primary care setting as a psychologist in a team based care setting. He has worked with people across the lifespan who have a wide range of barriers and backgrounds, giving him a firm understanding of the diverse demographic that makes up Calgary and Alberta. He is culturally sensitive, and provides support for individuals and couples.

He currently provides psychological services at a local medical clinic in a model that incorporates mental health care and medicine. He works collaboratively with the medical team to educate the other professionals and consults and counsel patients of all ages.

Within the therapy context, Tyler has an arsenal of tools that he can pull from a range of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, (Neurosequential model of therapeutics (NMT),transactional analysis (TA), solution-focused therapy, Bowenian Family systems and Adlerian therapy. He has also been trained in Gottman Level I which informs his work with couples, and in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). One might refer to Tyler’s style as integrative – meeting their client at their current place of readiness, understanding their preferences and needs, and identifying a specific approach that matches the client’s personality. There are always takeaways, insight and homework from the session - be ready to heal, process, and grow!

Tyler holds a Masters of Counselling degree and has further education in using the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and Transactional Analysis (TA). His capstone project for his Master’s program was an extensive literature review of the evidence-based practices to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Tyler tries to keep a busy social life. He loves maintaining connections with his crew, going out to the local pub for a sporting event and loves the camaraderie. He loves snowboarding and hiking which gets him out to the mountains as often as he can. Music is one of his biggest passions – he loves both creating and experiencing music in all of its mediums. He plays guitar and keyboard in a local avant-garde hard rock band and loves to attend live music. Don’t ask him about his extensive record and CD collection – or maybe you should! He loves almost all styles of music, whether it be soul, jazz, funk, pop, experimental hip-hop or death metal. Lastly, he is passionate about his role as a psychologist – as he looks forward to helping you feel like yourself again!
