Sarah Choudhry (she/her), MACP
Sarah Choudhry is a Registered Provisional Psychologist in the Province of Alberta. Sarah brings an integrative approach to her clients. She has worked in the medical field as a clinical pharmacist for over 10 years and in mental health settings for over three years. This experience gives her a unique understanding of mental health in the context of the medical system; she has worked in community, hospital and humanitarian settings in her career as a pharmacist. That said, Sarah offers an unbiased perspective and has an uncanny ability to meet her clients exactly where they are at as they walk through her office door. She has an innate ability to understand her clients and respects their perspectives and previous lived experiences.
As a psychologist, Sarah (rhymes with Zara), employs a client-centered and trauma-informed approach to help clients foster self-compassion, self-awareness and coping strategies to deal with life’s many challenges. As a child of immigrant parents, she is passionate and experienced with helping clients navigate their concerns within their individualist and cultural identities. She is devoted to her work with immigrants, refugees and those struggling with their cultural and racial identities as well as trauma. She also acknowledges the importance of intersectionality and working with an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens.
Sarah utilizes an eclectic approach - tailoring her approach to the client's requests, goals, and level of readiness while regarding one's prior experiences in therapy. She pulls from several modalities including: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Furthermore, she is undergoing EMDR training early in the new year to provide effective and evidence-based care to those with trauma and its rootedness.
In her free time, you can often find Sarah at the many restaurants and coffee shops in Calgary with friends or a good book. You might also find her at boxing and dance studios. She enjoys spending time in nature either hiking or kayaking.
