Janice Leong (she/her)

Janice Leong is currently a student intern completing her Masters of Counselling Degree through City University of Seattle. She also holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta.

Janice is a permanently certified Alberta teacher and former elementary and middle school teacher. She has a background in educational psychology and over 20 years of experience working in educational settings with students who have varying levels of intensity and complexity.

Janice works with children, youth, and adults across the lifespan. She values the uniqueness of each client’s experiences and circumstances, aiming to cultivate a therapeutic environment grounded in understanding, compassion, collaboration, and empathy. She believes that her role as a therapist is to provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can discover their own strengths and inner resources to help them meet their goals.

Drawing on her extensive experience of over two decades in front-line teaching, she brings a wealth of experiential knowledge regarding connection and relational dynamics to her practice, enriching her ability to support clients through their challenges. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in a strength-based model, complemented by integrated therapeutic techniques. In early September 2024, she will undertake Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) training. Her therapeutic modalities also include Sandtray Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).

Janice is married and the proud stepmother of two adult children. Recently, she and her spouse adopted two rescue kittens and have dedicated a lot of time to care for them. She enjoys travelling, being active, watching documentaries, attending concerts and events, and spending time with her family and friends.
